Jewel

Ouchy Foot

Jewel somehow managed to slice the bulb of her left hind heel.

Silly pony.  I no more than get Jewel back on a good supplement regimen where she is really looking fabulous and WHAM! she does something to herself.  In this case, she sliced the bulb of her left hind heel, all the way into the frog.  YOUCH!  Poor girly.  She’s not lame (no head bobbing), just a bit short at the trot. I haven’t ridden her since I discovered this a couple weeks ago.  I was hoping it would heal a little quicker than it has.  This pic is from Sun 10/5/2014.

And yes, I really did use the word “ouchy.”  Blame it on having two kids almost 2 and 3 years old.  ‘Ouchy’ and ‘Bonk’ are regular parts of our vocabulary these days.  Anyone else’s unrelated homelife vocabulary spill over into farm life?  Or vice versa?

Aside from that, Jewel is looking great as we go into cooler weather.  I am really pleased with the difference that rice bran and beet pulp have made to her physique.  I don’t mind her being a bit on the pudgy side as temps drop — especially given that she hasn’t really been worked in the last month due to my lameness and now her heel injury.
